10.7.7.7 We fished with Andy and Simon today and both of them caught their first blue marlin today on Xacara . Andy caught a white as well and Simons fish was caught on 30 pound.

Both blues were smallish fish around 250 pounds.

Brasilia caught a 300 and Nola lost a tuna.

6.5.5.5 We caught a 500 pound blue marlin with Luciano and Nicola on a live pitch again. The fish came in on a Moyes cupfaced prototype Lure Large... ? We had another bite but that could have been a white as well. We defenetly raised another white. Habitat caught 2 and saw some more. Nola pulled the hook on 1 or two.

5.4.4.4 We caught a nice 700-750 pound blue marlin on Condor Bank again. Paty caught a 650,Brasilia a 550 and a 400, Makaira 500 + 1 bite and Habitat caught 2 blues as well.

We caught a 650 pound blue and had a bite of a white marlin. Brasilia caught 2 out of 5 bites between 300 and 500 pounds and Habitat caught 1 out of 3 smaller blues.

3.2.2.2 We had to fish in the North of the island today because of the wind . There were fish there as well !

We caught a 300 pounder and probably raised anotherone. We also had a bite of a white marlin. Brasilia pulled the hook on a 700 pounder.

2.1.1.1 Very Good Blue Marlinfishing on the Condorbank today !!!

We caught a 300 pounder that came in on the Blackbart Blue Breakfast. We also caught some small Dorados and had a bite of a white marlin. Brasilia caught a 500 pounder lost 3 more up to 700 pounds and raised one more. Habitat caught a 500 pounder as well and missed one and raised one more . Two double headers today !!!

1.0.0.0 On our first day fishing in the Azores for this year we had 2 knockdowns from white marlin.

Nola caught a 750 pound blue marlin and Habitat caught a 250 pound blue as well. 2 days ago Makaira pulled the hook on a nice one too.

We went back to the north and found the white marlin in the same place as they were yesterday and today we had our system working . We caught 9 out of 11 bites and saw 8 more. We saw a tailing blue in the evening but no bite. Boca Raton caught a 650 and brasilia 2 lost a decent size blue.

We fished the north today as there was a strong southerly wind blowing and we got lucky .We caught a small mako shark

and a 350 pound blue marlin.

We had lots of whitemarlinaction but couldn´t stay connected to 1. GRRR... We had 6 bites and raised 5 more. Tomorrow.....

40.29.22.16 We caught a white marlin followed by a big blue shark and in the afternoon we got a bite of a 750-800 pounder on the Bonze Behemoth and pulled the hook . Marty teased it in and got it to eat our mackerel and pulled the hook and lost site of it .We pitched the other bait anyways and shure enough after a while when everybody lost hope already it showed up behind the bait and eate it.

We fished all 12 pound line today and quickly raised a decend fish wich broke of on the bite shortly later we raised an aproximatly 400 pound fish that eate our live mackerel good and Sherrell was on again. We had the leader the first time within 20 minutes and for a second time half an hour later. the fish gave us 6 opportuneties in the 14 hours we fought it but we could never get close enough again .We ended up breaking the line a 3 am on the 28th of august. The fish took us more than 20 miles south west of the condorbank where we hooked it. Respect to Sherrell for fighting a fish for such a long time !!! (I was competely finished and hungover from the night before)

On our first day fishing with Sherrell and Gary Carter we caught a pending 16# ladys line class record. The fish came up on the Moyes Bushmaster. We fought the 532 pounder for 17 minutes before Marty had the leader and Johann stuck a solid gaffshot.

We raised something in the morning wich I guess was a tuna behind the long.In the late afternoon we saw a serious tailer and pitched a livebait directly in her face but no interest.

Our final result is 61 blue marlin caught in 41 days and we raised 134 fish + some white marlin . Thanks to all my friends in Horta especially to Marty Bates and ouis and Patricia Sougne . It was a fantastic time here in Marlin paradise and I can´t wait to come back next year !

41.134.112.61 Today was our last day on Xacara for this season. We had six lazy bites and finally managed to catch on about 500 pounds on the Double B and even that one was hooked in the side. Nola also had lots of bites and caught one , Brasilia caught a mako and boca Raton caught one out of 2.

The real good fishing unfortunately happened 25 miles away on the Condor Bank where Habitat caught 3, Boca Raton 3, Dois Peixes 3 and Nola went 5 for 14 and Makaira caught 7 out of 12+-!!! congratulations too Louis Roque ,Pedro Escobar and theire anglers !!!

20.39.34.21 We caught some really big chubmackerel on a pinackle and tried for 4 hours to catch one on a live bait but we only had one fish behind the bait that didn´t eat it. We started trolling lures at 4 and at 5.30 we caught a nice one on the Moyes Jboy (800-850)

17.24.21.13 It was Rhet Spencers last day on Xacara for this year and he caught his No. 100 blue marlin with us ( 450 pounds on the Bonze Angel) congrats from us.

We caught 2 more today . A 500 pounder on the Moyes medium Pipe Bomb and a 400 pounder on the Black Bart Abaco Prowler.

14.13.11.8 As the Hurricane was forecasted to pas us south we went to the bank and fished in a weared scenario of windlines and rings in dark clouds but the wind stayed at around 15kt and we had a great day ! We caught a 350 pound blue on the Moyes Ono ... (Bullet) and a bit later a 700 pounder eate the Abaco Prowler (Black Bart).

13.11.9.6 Finally good weather and fish on azoresbank.We caught a 650-700 on the black bart Hawaian breakfast and raised another blue .We also had a bite of a white marlin.

We caught a 750 pound blue, a 350 and a white marlin on the Hawaian breakfast by Blackbart and a 650 pound blue marlin on the Bonze Mongrel Dog.We raised another 650 pound blue that missed the lure and had another bite from a white.Brasilia caught 3 around 500 and missed a 700, Habitat caught 3 700, 600 and 400 Nola caught 1 about 450 and missed one as well as 2 white marlin and Boca Raton caught a 750 and missed a 500 .

The action happened on acoresbank where we went later but unfortunately too late to get a blue.Habitat caught a small blue, brasilia caught 1 out of 2 around 500 pounds,gypsy blues caught 3 out of 4 up too 850 and boca...(Zacks boat) missed 3 blues on baits up too 800 pounds. 1.1.1.1 My first day on Xacara started disapointing as we went to condorbank and the water was cold and free of live so we went the 20 miles to azoresbank and the warm water was there. First we had a bite of a white on the bonze grimmel and later we caught a 350 pounder on the Big Rock Plunger BlackBart. Brasilia caught a 400 pounder, Nola caught a white and missed a nice blue, Habitat went 1 for 2 nice ones and caught a 850 makaira missed a white marlin.

Today was my last fishingday of the 2011 season and we had a bite of a 4-500 pounder that eate the Black Bart Abaco Prowler pulled a bunch of line and came off after bringing the lure back up it eate the Bonze Grimmel and came off again. Brasilia caught two blues a 400 and a 750 pounder.Thanks to everybody that made it a such a great time for me .I can´t wait to go back to all my friends and the big old blue Ladys next year. Blue Marlin fishing in the Azores is very special .

Finally the weather allowed us to go to the azoresbank again and we caught two blues out of three bites 650 and 350 pounds. The 650 eate 2 lures and got hooked on both solidly very hungry fish !

We (Makaira) caught 2 blues , a 300 pounder on the Black Bart RPP and a 650 pounder on the Bonze Violator. We had two more bites from blues on the Angel and the Hercules and had two bites from white marlin.Brasilia caught 3 out of four up too 750 and Xacara also went 3 for 4. Gladius raised 3 blues and got bites out of two of them. Habitat fished in the north and caught 2 blues as well.

We had an unbelievable day today ! Marty and me fished for one day with Luciano , Nicola and Ian(taking all these pictures) we caught 4 blues and a white on the flat calm azoresbank. Luciano first caught a 500 pounder on the Bonze Grimmel.

The most exiting fish of today was defenetly caught on the Habitat !

Capt Filip and Angler Lucas caught a monster on 80 pound line that died after a 3 hour fight.

The fish was weighed on a certified scale and was 539kg heavy ! 1 kg under the 80 pound world record caught in 1989 also here in Horta.

The measurements were the following

Shortlenght :147 inches

Girth :74 inches

Tail :21 inches

Weight in pounds 1186lbs

The fish was caught on a Black Bart 1656angel !

I was running the 31 Makaira for two days and today we caught a realy nice one over 900 pounds on the Bonze Ballistic .

I´m back in Horta and so far the fishing was quiet slow.

Two days ago we raised a 700 pound marlin on the Bonze DS and it eate the squid perfectly but we pulled the hook after a few seconds. Xacara caught a 150 pounder. Habitat a 700 pounder.We also lost a white marlin and saw a Broadbill on the surface . Yesterday we had a bite of a mako and lost a smaller blue marlin .

We caught a 600 pounder on the grimmel that fought like a beast today. After we had her on the leader the first time ,we went to full and ended up cranking up the preset to 72 pounds of drag to get her up again and she still had plenty of power left.

We also caught a white and had one more bite of a white.

Followed by a doubleheader on Grimmel and Tracker both pulled off. (Medium size) 3 minutes later we had a strike on the Tracker

and then finally we caught two again on the

Mongrel Dog (250 pounds)

and at least a decent one

over 500 on the Tracker again. Doubleheader with Captain Zack caught 2 for four , Habitat 1/2 plus a Mako and Xacara caught a 700 pounder and a white marlin !

Wind !!!

The weather allowed us to go to Condor today but the condtions were not very comfortable. In the early afternoon the wind got stronger and we decided to go to the north and on the last line on the bank we caught a 200 pounder on the D.S.

Habitat caught a 350-400. Xacara Nada.

Bonze went straight to the south as we started late and the weather was still not good but even when the bait looked promising he couldn´t find any marlin the same for the other boats today

Day off

Xacara caught a 750pounder and a 800pounder in the airportarea (southside of Faial) Habitat lost one fish there.

The GPS was fixed and we went strait to condor . The weather was not nice in the beginning but it turned good in the afternoon. The bait was still where it was two days ago and we caught our first 600 pounder on the Krakatao . The fish got tangeled in one of the other lines so we fought it on two 130s. It still had power enough to squese Bonzes hand down to a girls format ( After an hour it was more like my size)

An hour later we caught another 600 on the Bonze Hercules and in the early evening we caught

a small one on the Bonze D.S.

Bonze had no luck today !

First the GPS stopped working so we couldn´t work the bank properly and than the weather turned bad so we had to fish the airport and we only caught a nice dorado.

We had an excellent day today !

We caught 4 out of six blue marlin today !

We started on the SE end of the Condorbank today and I just wanted to turn on a goodlooking baitball as we got our first bite on the hawaian breakfast (BlackBart)

after a short fight Louis caught the 550 pounder.

An hour later at the same spot a simillar size fish eate the Krakatao (Legendlures)

and gave us some scratches at the snooter.

The bait dissapeared and I went to the westend of the bank and the bait started looking really good hear Xacara hooked and released their 350 almost simultaniously with our

200 pounder on Bonzes D.S.

Very shortly after this we hooked another 550 pounder and caught it on

Bonzes scorpion.

The lure came back in the water and within 5 minutes another nice size blue attacked it again but came off. As the lures were back in the water the hawaian breakfast got another strike with the same result.

Xacara went 1/2 and Mario lost a 500 pounder on the walkaround "Marlin"

We caught 2/2 today all on Bonzes D.S. ! The first one was 850pounder that crashed the lure like a rocket

The second fish was a250 pounder.

Xacara caught 2/3 200 and300 pounds and the one they missed was a nice one.

Xacara caught 2 blues and a white !

We had one lazy knockdown of a 700 pounder today.

Xacara did similar with one defenet marlinbite and two other knockdowns wich they didn´t see. I don´t know what happened on Habitat.

We started in the north today but Louis didn´t find anything interesting there so we ran towards the condor bank. Doing that we put a WR far back behind the boat. This time it worked as Bonze spotted a 650 pounder that tried to eat the lure at a speed of 20 knots ! Fortunately we had the throttles down already when she finally grabbed it and Bonze backed the drag right off. Laurent from Morocco caught his first azorean blue with the most spektakular bite of a marlin I have seen.

On the leader the fish still showed some jumps.

In the afternoon we caught another nice blue about simmilar size and she crashed the Hawaian Breakfast from Blackbart.

Xacara caught one out of two bites around 550 pounds and Habitat caught a small one and I think he had another bite too.

We didn´t see nothing today. Xacara caught one about 600 pounds and Habitat caught a 750 pounder out of three bites.

Today was a day with plenty of action again but the result was not very satisfying! We went 0/3 and raised anotherone all around 500 pounds.

Xacara also went 0/3 they had two nice ones up in a double and Habitat went 1/3 700 pounds

We caught 2/4 bites today on the Condor Bank !

First we had a bite of a 700 pounder that came off after a few wild jumps.

Then we caught a 400 pounder on the D.S. by bonze that wanted to be caught . It came back 3 times after pulling a bunch of line of the reel and finally got stuck.

A bit later we caught a 500 pounder the fish ate bonzes Scorpion.

In the afternoon we had another bite but the fish came of after a short while.

Xacara caught a 250 and missed a nice one .

Habitat caught a 250 pounder as well and pulled one off.

We caught another very nice blue marlin today on the Brazila . As we take the wheel in turns the last days and Bonze was driving yesterday it was my turn today. The fish were all in a fairly small area around Salao in the north of Faial the last days and we fished there again around three pm the 800 pounder came up on Bonzes Scorpion and after missing it for quiet a while she got it. After half an hour the fish was at the boat giving Bonze a good stretch on the leader.

She was the only fish we saw today.

Habitat caught a 550 a bit earlier and went in early.

Xacara had nothing today.

We released a very nice blue marlin today . She ate Bonzes D.S. in a very aggressive way Louis caught the fish in just under 1 hour after having some trouble with our handle.

We estimated the fish bigger then 900 pounds.

We had another bite of a smallish blue that knocked the same lure down and buggered off.

Xacara caught a 800 pounder out of a doubleheader !

We missed two blues today !

A 500 pounder that eate the K.C. Tube fell off just before Bonze had the leader and the 700 we saw in the evening just swiped Bonzes Submission but no hookup.

Xacara had the same problem they also pulled a nice one off.

Habitat caught a 700 pounder in the morning !

Nothing for us but Habitat caught a 650 pounder and Xacara a 900+.

Habitat had a bite of a nice blue.

No luck for us and Xacara but Habitat caught two around 750 pounds

In the morning we first raised two white marlin of wich one knocked the lure out of the clip. Around noon we had a bite of a 600 pounder and Bill fought the fish until the hook slipped of the bill 2 meters from reaching the leader.

We caught a 350 pounder an hour later.

Habitat pulled the hook on one and Xacara had nothing today.

Marty caught a 650-700pound marlin

on the kona classic tube from Bart today and it was his first one too. In the evening we had a bite of something relatively big and we thought it was a blue but after pulling the hook we found strong toothmarks on the hookrig and figured it must have been a makoshark.

Habitat went 1/2 (750) and Xacara caught a 400 pounder and raised a nice one.

We had a knockdown of a 700+ today but the fish never came back for more !

5 minutes later Habitat catches a 750 pounder at the same spot ...

Xacara had a couple of bites from white marlin.

Nothing for us today but Xacara caught a 900 on the condorbank!

Still walehunting but with even less success then yesterday.

But we caught two dorados traveling.

Doubleheader caught a 550pounder and Habitat lost a potential grander after two hours fight. Tomorrow is our first day fishing . The weatherforecast looks good for the next days and the fish that are around at the moment are very motivating.

On my first day on the Brasilia a 40 foot Blackwatch owned by Louis Sougne

we (Les Gallagher, Bonze me and a Filmcrew for Natinal Geografic lead by Rick Rosenthal) were chasing

spermwales

for underwaterfootage but couldn´t get close enough for filming.

Habitat caught a 850 pound blue on the condorbank and it was full of baitfish and birds.

Yesterday Xacara caught a 900+ fish.
